How to Buy
At OnlineAuctioneer.ca, you can bid on auction items, and if you are the highest bidder, at or above the reserve price when the auction ends, you win and get to buy the item.
Please note: Once submitted, your bid binds you to purchase the item. If you are the highest bidder at the end of the auction, you are legally obliged to complete the transaction.
Bidding Explained
Registered user and logged-in – to bid on an item, you must be a registered user and logged-in to your account. When you click the Bid Now or Pre-Bid Now button, a window appears with a box for you to input your bid amount or your maximum bid amount. You can input a bid amount with or without a decimal.
Bid increments – Increments for bidding are automatically set based on the current price of the item. Listed below are the price ranges followed by the appropriate bid increment.
up to $100 - $1
$101 to $200 - $5
$201 to $500 - $10
$501 to $1,000 - $50
over $1,000 - $100
Bids will only be accepted in the increments shown.
Maximum bidding – By placing your maximum bid (the highest amount that you are willing to pay), you can take advantage of the auto-bidding system, which automatically bids to the next increment until you are the highest bidder, or until your maximum bid is reached and you are outbid.
Confirm your bid – In order to register your bid you must click Confirm Bid.
Error Messages Explained
"You have been outbid" - This message indicates that another buyer has placed a higher maximum bid.
"You have already placed a higher maximum bid" - This message indicates that you already have a bid registered and the new amount you are trying to bid is the same or less than your existing bid.
"Your pre-bid has been registered. However, it is below the Reserve"- This message indicates that you have a bid registered but that your bid is below the reserve price. You may increase you bid until the reserve price is met.
Important note: The time to register a bid may vary. As such, bidders are encouraged to allow sufficient time to process bids. Don't wait until the final seconds or you may be to late.
OnlineAuctioneer.ca assumes no responsibility regarding incomplete bids.
Extended auctions – Auctions in which a bid is placed within the final minute, will be extended by one minute, in order to allow sufficient time for all competing bids.
